1800 Ridge

Architect: Norsman Architects
Location:

Evanston, Illinois

The project is an addition to an existing two story building. The existing building is a concrete joist system with a 15 foot floor to floor height. The new design calls for mezzanine levels to be placed within the existing building and 2 new floor levels to be added. The addition is a steel frame structure bearing on the existing concrete columns.

The architectural intent was to employ a green design within the building.   This was accomplished by providing numerous planters along the exterior roof terraces for tree growth.   There is also a balcony along the south face of the addition that cantilevers off the steel structure.  This balcony is integral to the green architecture as it is clad in a metal grid that provides both a medium for plant growth and sunscreening.
