United States Border Station

Architect: Ross Barney + Jankowski
Location: Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan

The project consists of a new three story building for the General Services Administration (GSA) at the U.S. and Canadian border.  The total area of the building is 38,900 square feet, and will house offices, conference rooms, firing range, detention spaces, inspection garages, and warehouse.  Other features include a pedestrian bridge and a large canopy structure over the inspection booths and driving lanes.

As part of security considerations, a structural analysis was made to prevent progressive collapse due to explosions.

The architectural design was based on sustainable or green architecture, and followed the guidelines for LEED certification.
