Motorola PCS Design Center

Architect: HOK
Location: Champaign, Illinois

Motorola PCS Design Center is a two story office building. The building houses computer equipment and offices dedicated to the design of telephone system components. The main construction material is composite metal deck slabs on composite structural steel beams and girders. The lateral force resisting system utilizes a series of moment frames predicated by an open-floor layout and strip windows along the exterior elevations. The building is clad with metal studs and a masonry veneer. Unique design elements include two large clerestories for natural light, a complex, cantilevered mansard roof framing system and three story exterior "fin" walls.
