The project consists of the design of a new 73,000sf museum housing exhibition spaces and offices.
The main exhibition spaces
are two story spaces with office spaces grouped within a four story
structure. The building is basically linear in plan. However, because of
the need to retain an existing pond and more than 250 trees on the site,
the building’s geometry is very complex, involving intricate angular geometry.
In addition, the roofs are not flat, but are pitched and sloped to create
varying planes. A unique design feature is the butterfly haven, a four
story open space with sloping exterior glass walls all around.
