Samsung Central Research Headquarters Building

Architect: Perkins & Will
Location: Taejon, Korea
When completed, the 400,000sf building will be Taejon’s tallest and will serve as a center for heavy industry and chemical research. The structural system is a grid of 9mx9.3m bays of steel framing. The use of steel was important for the architectural expression achieved through the use of the exposed steel. The long span roof areas in the atria, dining room and auditorium, the multi story curtain walls, the curved horizontal truss supporting the office areas and the entry truss are all areas that required the use of steel to achieve the desired look.
