The project is an addition to an existing two-story building. The existing building is a concrete joist system with a 15-foot height from floor to floor. The new design calls for mezzanine levels to be placed within the existing building and two new floor levels to be added. The addition is a steel frame structure bearing on the existing concrete columns.
The architectural intent was to employ a green design within the building. This was accomplished by providing numerous planters along the exterior roof terraces for tree growth. There is also a balcony along the south face of the addition that cantilevers off the steel structure. This balcony is integral to the green architecture as it is clad in a metal grid that provides both a medium for plant growth and sunscreening.
