Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital
ARCHITECT: Pelli Clarke Pelli
EXECUTIVE ARCHITECT: Gensler
LOCATION: Lake Forest, IL
This project replaces Northwestern Medicine’s existing building with a new, leading edge facility. The 450,000 square foot concrete hospital consists of two medical office wings, three wings that contain patient and diagnostic rooms, and a central rotunda. The six spaces are arranged in a crescent shape and are linked via an interior corridor and an exterior boardwalk. The boardwalk overlooks a reflecting pond that waterfalls into a lake that also serves as a stormwater basin. This 5 story structure with a basement includes a heavily reinforced room that will accommodate a linear accelerator (LINAC). Other key features include a monumental staircase, designs for a future floor, and an underground tunnel to connect this hospital to the neighboring medical office building.
